Creating the Extraordinary Student Experience

Order-It-Yourself (OIY) Testing

How does it work?

  • Come in between 9am and 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. You don't need an appointment or a doctor's order, but you must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Check-in at the Patient Registration/Check-in Desk on the ground floor.  You will pay the cost of the test at this time.
  • Go to the laboratory on the first floor.  The laboratory technician will give you some simple instructions.
  • Give a urine/blood sample (depending upon the test) - and you're done.

How will I get my results?

  • Results will be available 3-5 days after the test via MyBuckMD.
    • NOTE: All positive or abnormal results will be reviewed by the Student Life Student Health Services (SLSHS) Medical Director or designee, and the patient will be contacted with advice about recommended follow-up.

Do I need to make an appointment?
No. You don't need to make an appointment for a specific time or with a specific health care provider.
Do I have to have Comprehensive Student Health Insurance to be able to have the test?
No. This screening program is open to all Ohio State University students regardless of insurance.
Is the test covered by insurance?
No. Order-It-Yourself screening tests cannot be billed to insurance.
How long will the test take?
It depends on how busy the laboratory is, which cannot be predicted, but you should reasonably expect to be in and out of SLSHS in less than 15 minutes.
When will the results be available?
It typically takes 3 days for the results to come back.
What happens if my results are positive? What should I do?
You'll need to make an appointment to see a health care provider for treatment, counseling and further evaluation and testing - we can NOT just call in a medication for you. Any Ohio State student can be seen at  SLSHS regardless of insurance, so you can make an appointment with us or with the health care provider of your choice.
Will the results of Order-It-Yourself testing appear in my medical record at SLSHS?
Yes, but these results are protected by the same stringent policies and laws that protect the rest of your health record.
